The Tarkington VFD received a $36,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service for a CAFS skid unit in December 2010. The decision was made to use the grant towards purchasing a complete truck. Specifications were compiled and a request for bids went out. In March 2011, Freedom Fire Equipment as awarded the contract and the truck was delivered in September 2011. The truck is the first responding unit on wildland and automobile fires. With it's auxillary engine powered pump it can pump and roll and the CAF system greatly enhances the firefighting capabilities.
